Auckland City Council
The council aims to create a more productive economy in Auckland, delivering high value solutions to global markets by being innovative and creative. We recognise the vital role the screen production industry plays in achieving this goal.
With over half of New Zealand’s screen production employment, and over three quarters of national television employment, Auckland city is the home of the country’s screen production industry. Auckland City Council is committed to ensuring we have a sustainable screen production industry in the region: sponsoring Film Auckland, supporting monthly FALAIG (Film Auckland Local Authorities Industry Group) meetings, and permitting over 500 film shoots per year in the Auckland city isthmus.
The screen production industry is the second largest employer in Auckland city’s creative industries, and accounts for a substantial share of the creative sector’s recent growth. With 39 per cent of national creative sector employment, the council appreciates the important contribution the creative industries make to the city’s economy. Auckland City Council is leading the way with its creative industries action plan Blueprint: Growing Auckland’s creative industries.
